Carter May Receives Inaugural Scholarship From Ole Miss Golf Course

The Ole Miss Golf Course awarded its inaugural scholarship to Carter May, of Stewart. May (BBA 24) is pursuing his MBA at the University of Mississippi and is a member of the agronomy staff at the golf course. "OMGC student employees are an invaluable part of our daily operations," said Tate Anderson, manager of the Ole Miss Golf Course. "This scholarship program is a unique opportunity for us to recognize their contributions to the course, as well as their personal and academic accomplishments. We congratulate this year's recipients and remain committed to supporting our student employees."

University of Mississippi Student Sydney Guntharp Wins Stamps Impact Prize

Sydney Guntharp, from Hernando, a senior English and political science double major at the University of Mississippi, was named one of 15 Stamps Impact Prize winners for spring 2025. Matching a $100,000 renewable gift from the Stamps family, the university created the competitive award in fall 2023 to enhance undergraduate students' academic experience by supporting innovative, faculty-mentored endeavors beyond the classroom. Students receive up to $5,000 to support their work.

Malorie Steen Receives Inaugural Scholarship From Ole Miss Golf Course

The Ole Miss Golf Course awarded its inaugural scholarship to Malorie Steen, of Vicksburg. Steen (BA 23) is pursuing a Master of Education in counselor education at the University of Mississippi and is on the pro staff at the golf course. "OMGC student employees are an invaluable part of our daily operations," said Tate Anderson, manager of the Ole Miss Golf Course. "This scholarship program is a unique opportunity for us to recognize their contributions to the course, as well as their personal and academic accomplishments. We congratulate this year's recipients and remain committed to supporting our student employees."

University of Mississippi Sophomore Demetrick Stringer Earns Spot in National Leadership Program

Demetrick Stringer, of Robinsonville, a sophomore legal studies and political science major at the University of Mississippi, is one of 12 students nationwide selected for the 2026 class of The Institute for Responsible Citizenship. A two-summer program based in Washington, D.C., the institute offers opportunities for African American male college students. Those opportunities include internships, seminars on economic and constitutional principles and ethics, meetings with prominent leaders, and personal and professional development workshops.

University of Mississippi Student Kennady Hertz to Effect Environmental Policy Changes Through Fellowship

University of Mississippi graduate student Kennady Hertz will spend 2025 gaining valuable environmental policy experience in the nation's capital as part of an elite fellowship program. Hertz, an integrated marketing and communications graduate student, is among the 88 finalists chosen for the 2025 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Sea Grant John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship Program. The yearlong fellowship selects students and recent graduates from advanced degree programs to work alongside federal agencies that tackle critical marine, coastal and Great Lakes policy issues.

Isabella Scalia, of Madison, a junior mechanical engineering and Chinese double major at UM, was named one of the Stamps Impact Prize winners. Scalia will pursue the project "Ballistic Characterization of Armor Configurations Utilizing Carbon-Neutral Steel Variants" with faculty mentor Damian Stoddard, assistant professor of mechanical engineering.

University of Mississippi Graduate Gregory Silas Nelson Receives CPA Exam Medal

Gregory Silas Nelson, a graduate of the Patterson School of Accountancy at the University of Mississippi, was awarded a 2023 CPA exam medal by the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. MSCPA medals are given annually to first-time CPA exam candidates who earn the highest cumulative scores in the state. Nelson received the Silas M. Simmons Bronze Medal.

UM Graduate Drew Easley Receives CPA Exam Medal

Drew Easley, a graduate of the Patterson School of Accountancy at the University of Mississippi, was awarded a 2023 CPA exam medal by the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. MSCPA medals are given annually to first-time CPA exam candidates who earn the highest cumulative scores in the state. Easley received the T.E. Lott Silver Medal.
