University of Mississippi Student Julian Callender Wins Stamps Impact Prize

The Stamps Impact Prize committee selected Julian Callender as one of eight University of Mississippi students for its biannual competitive award program that funds undergraduate academic and creative projects. Callender, a junior chemistry major from River Ridge, Louisiana, worked on his project with the help of mentor Nathan Hammer, professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Callender's project is titled "Measuring Electron Affinities of Molecules."

University of Mississippi Student Will Watson Wins Stamps Impact Prize

The Stamps Impact Prize committee selected Will Watson as one of eight University of Mississippi students for its biannual competitive award program that funds undergraduate academic and creative projects. Watson, a senior interdisciplinary studies major from Flowery Branch, Georgia, worked on his project with the help of mentor Matthew Reysen, associate professor of psychology. Watson's project is titled "Effects of Stress and Collaborative Recall on Memory Performance."

UM Senior Sophia Toner Joins Elite Ranks With Marshall Scholarship Win

The British government has awarded Sophia Turner, a University of Mississippi international studies major from Pass Christian, a prestigious Marshall Scholarship. Established in 1953 to show appreciation for the United States' assistance following World War II, the Marshall Scholarship funds two years of graduate study at a British university of the scholar's choosing.

University of Mississippi Students Inducted Into Phi Kappa Phi

University of Mississippi students were welcomed into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor societies for all academic disciplines. The university held an induction ceremony on Nov. 2 at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts on campus. Phi Kappa Phi membership is based on a student's character and academic standing. Juniors must have completed 72 credit hours and rank in the top 7.5% of their class, while seniors and graduate students must rank in the top 10% of their class.

Fifty rising seniors joined the Tassels Chapter of Mortar Board at the University of Mississippi. Mortar Board is a national honor society that traditionally recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service, provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities, and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.

Lauren Black Named UM Army ROTC's Top Senior of the Year

Lauren Black, a business major from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, was named Top Senior of the Year at the University of Mississippi's Army ROTC Awards Banquet. To receive this award, a cadet is evaluated upon academic performance, performance in ROTC, attendance, physical fitness, volunteer work and cadre assessment. "In addition to serving as the battalion commander for the spring semester, Cadet Black led with distinction as an example of professionalism and commitment including scoring the highest PT (physical training) score in the program," said Myron "MC" McWashington, recruiting operations officer.

University of Mississippi Student Lake Dodson Studies Abroad in South Korea

Lake Dodson, a political science major at the University of Mississippi, had the opportunity of a lifetime to study abroad last fall at Kyung Hee University, the only university in South Korea with a nuclear reactor on campus. Dodson, of Madison, studied Korean foreign policy, North-South Korean relations and carried out nuclear research entirely in the Korean language.
