Anna Owens Named One of Inaugural Stamps Impact Prize Winners

Anna Owens, of Madison, was named one of the 13 inaugural recipients of the Stamps Impact Prize, a new competitive award program at the University of Mississippi to support undergraduate-initiated, faculty-mentored research and creative achievement projects. The program is the first of its kind in the nation to receive a renewable $100,000 gift from E. Roe Stamps and his family, which is being matched by an investment from the university. Ole Miss students were invited to apply for the awards, which provide financial resources for their research projects.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in partnership with Schmidt Futures awarded Sumeet Kulkarni (MEd 21) the 2023 Eric and Wendy Schmidt Award.

Brandon Kriplean, of Franklin, Tennessee, a senior international studies major at the University of Mississippi, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. The Rhodes Scholarship allows students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom to complete their master's or doctoral degree.

University of Mississippi Graduate Ethan Lambert Selected as Portz Scholar

Ethan Lambert, of Corinth, who graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in May, has been selected as one of four 2023 Portz Scholars in the National Collegiate Honors Council's annual competition for outstanding undergraduate honors papers. Lambert won $375 and a free trip to present his honors thesis at the 58th annual NCHC conference in Chicago this November.

Ole Miss Graduate Margaret Walker Awarded $8,500 Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship

University of Mississippi alumna Margaret Walker of Suwanee, Georgia, received a fellowship worth $8,500 from the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Walker is one of 62 recipients nationwide to receive the fellowship. Walker received a dual bachelor's degree in public policy leadership and integrated marketing communications from UM in May. As a Phi Kappa Phi fellow, Walker will pursue a Juris Doctor at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Ole Miss Graduate Eliza Peters Honored by Alpha Omicron Pi

Eliza Peters, a member of the Nu Beta Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi at the University of Mississippi, who graduated from the university with bachelor's degrees in rhetoric and journalism in May, was honored with a prestigious award at the 52nd International Convention of the fraternity held June 21-25 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas. The Mary Louise Roller Award honors one collegiate member who has provided outstanding service and leadership to her local Panhellenic, campus and community.

Five Named SEC Emerging Scholars at UM

Three University of Mississippi doctoral students and two postdoctoral researchers have been selected as SEC Emerging Scholars. The 2023-24 scholars are doctoral students Adam Beam, of Mira Loma, California; Miguel De Leon, of Houston, Texas; and Purnima Narayan, of Pimpri, Pune, Maharashtra, India; and postdoctoral researchers Jenny Cocciardi, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; and Mike Xue, of Nanjing, China. Southeastern Conference provosts established the SEC Emerging Scholars program in 2021 to aid in preparing future faculty members. The program, which gives special attention to top scholars from historically underrepresented groups, provides professional development and networking opportunities for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers who are considering careers in higher education.
