University of Mississippi Graduate Anthony Miner Builds Confidence, Community Through Gospel Choir

Anthony Miner, of Pearl, who graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in biological science in May, credits the UM Gospel Choir for helping him grow personally and find his place at Ole Miss. A chance encounter with the choir at a tabling event on the Ole Miss Student Union Plaza in his freshman year led him to attend a rehearsal, and he never looked back.

Dymond Mitchell graduated in May from the University of Mississippi as a Stamps Scholar, member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and worldwide traveler with a bachelor's degree in sociology and a minor in society and health. She also leaves a legacy robust with leadership and community action.

Brian Harrington Earns Doctorate in Counselor Education from University of Mississippi

Brian Harrington, who graduated from the University of Mississippi in May with a doctorate in counselor education, was the Mississippi Counseling Association's Outstanding New Counselor in 2022. He was nationally board-certified and, by every measure, exactly where he was supposed to be in his career. But he felt like there was more he needed to do. It was not the first time he felt this way. Harrington approached every job with the idea that people needed someone in their corner.

Six years after joining the University of Mississippi as the first in her family to attend college, Victoria Amari has earned one of the nation's most competitive graduate research awards. Amari, a first-year doctoral student in biomedical engineering from Hayden, Alabama, has been awarded the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

University of Mississippi Students Inducted Into Phi Beta Kappa

More than 90 University of Mississippi students were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors organization in the liberal arts. The university held an induction ceremony on April 10 in the Johnson Commons Ballroom on campus. Phi Beta Kappa membership is an honor conferred upon fewer than 10% of each graduating class. Students do not apply for membership but are elected by the chapter after a review of the academic records of each eligible candidate.

University of Mississippi Students Inducted Into Phi Kappa Phi

More than 180 University of Mississippi students were welcomed into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor societies for all academic disciplines. The university held an induction ceremony on April 9 at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts on campus. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is based on a student's character and academic standing. Juniors must have completed 72 credit hours and rank in the top 7.5% of their class, while seniors and graduate students must rank in the top 10% of their class.

Lauren Black, a business major from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, was named Top Senior of the Year at the University of Mississippi's Army ROTC Awards Banquet. To receive this award, a cadet is evaluated upon academic performance, performance in ROTC, attendance, physical fitness, volunteer work and cadre assessment. "In addition to serving as the battalion commander for the spring semester, Cadet Black led with distinction as an example of professionalism and commitment including scoring the highest PT (physical training) score in the program," said Myron "MC" McWashington, recruiting operations officer.

Lake Dodson, a political science major at the University of Mississippi, had the opportunity of a lifetime to study abroad last fall at Kyung Hee University, the only university in South Korea with a nuclear reactor on campus. Dodson, of Madison, studied Korean foreign policy, North-South Korean relations and carried out nuclear research entirely in the Korean language.
