The University of Mississippi selected more than 90 students to receive a 2026 Marcus Elvis Taylor Memorial Medal, the university's highest academic award.

More than 180 University of Mississippi students were welcomed into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor societies for all academic disciplines. The university held an induction ceremony on April 9 at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts on campus. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is based on a student's character and academic standing. Juniors must have completed 72 credit hours and rank in the top 7.5% of their class, while seniors and graduate students must rank in the top 10% of their class.

More than 200 students were honored as the 2025-26 class of Who's Who Among Students at the University of Mississippi. The honorees were recognized for their achievements during a ceremony on April 10 at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Who's Who Among Students is a respected honor program recognizing seniors who excel academically and demonstrate leadership and community service on and off campus.

Nathaniel Carlson, a University of Mississippi junior chemistry major from Apex, North Carolina, recently joined a select group of students named as a Goldwater Scholar. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors planning to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. This year, the foundation selected 454 students from a pool of more than 5,000 applicants nominated by universities across the country.

Nineteen University of Mississippi students were inducted into the Columns Society on March 29 at Paris-Yates Chapel.

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation has named University of Mississippi junior Aminata Ba as a finalist for the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship. If selected, the public policy leadership and economics major from Southaven will become the university's 21st Truman scholar and the sixth in five years. The first-generation college student was selected from a pool of more than 780 applicants from 305 institutions nationwide.

More than 660 students graduated from the University of Mississippi in December 2025. Undergraduate and graduate candidates received degrees from the College of Liberal Arts, General Studies program, and schools of Accountancy, Applied Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Journalism and New Media, Law and Pharmacy.

The Stamps Impact Prize committee selected Julian Callender as one of eight University of Mississippi students for its biannual competitive award program that funds undergraduate academic and creative projects. Callender, a junior chemistry major from River Ridge, Louisiana, worked on his project with the help of mentor Nathan Hammer, professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Callender's project is titled "Measuring Electron Affinities of Molecules."

The Stamps Impact Prize committee selected Will Watson as one of eight University of Mississippi students for its biannual competitive award program that funds undergraduate academic and creative projects. Watson, a senior interdisciplinary studies major from Flowery Branch, Georgia, worked on his project with the help of mentor Matthew Reysen, associate professor of psychology. Watson's project is titled "Effects of Stress and Collaborative Recall on Memory Performance."

The Stamps Impact Prize committee selected Logan Sinquefield as one of eight University of Mississippi students for its biannual competitive award program that funds undergraduate academic and creative projects. Sinquefield, a junior biochemistry major from Senatobia, worked on his project with the help of mentor Adam Estes, professor of music. Sinquefield's project is titled "Cultivating Musicianship Through Chamber Music: Shades of Blue Recording Project and High School Outreach Across Mississippi."

Goulet, a sophomore chemical engineering major from Oxford, worked on his project with the help of mentor Jake Bennett, associate professor of physics and astronomy. Goulet's project is titled "The Fun of Physics: Garnering Interest and Excitement for STEM in Mississippi Public School Students Through Interactive Demonstrations."

Riley, a senior journalism major from Mount Laurel, New Jersey, worked on his project with the help of mentor Christopher Hutchinson, assistant professor of German. Riley's project is titled "Through the Eyes of Prisoners of War: Translating and Curating a German POW Newspaper in Aliceville, Alabama."

Sawser, a sophomore international studies, economics and Spanish major from Collierville, Tennessee, worked on her project with the help of mentor Daniel O'Sullivan, chair and professor of modern languages. Sawser's project is titled "Gibraltar: Brexit's Greater Implications."

Sawyer, a junior biochemistry major from Long Beach, worked on his project with the help of mentor Sujay Ray, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Sawyer's project is titled "Illuminating Oxidative Damage: Single-Molecule Fingerprinting of 8-oxoG for Early Disease Detection."

Signorelli, a junior mechanical engineering major from Metairie, Louisiana, worked on her project with the help of mentor Damian Stoddard, assistant professor of mechanical engineering. Signorelli's project is titled "The Effects of UV Degradation on the Dynamic Properties of Indigenous Woods for Blast Hazard Mitigation."

The British government has awarded Sophia Turner, a University of Mississippi international studies major from Pass Christian, a prestigious Marshall Scholarship. Established in 1953 to show appreciation for the United States' assistance following World War II, the Marshall Scholarship funds two years of graduate study at a British university of the scholar's choosing.

Sydney Guntharp, of Hernando, a senior English and political science major at the University of Mississippi, was named a Rhodes Scholarship finalist.

University of Mississippi junior Julien Bourgeois finessed a five-minute business pitch into a third-place finish and a $7,000 prize at the SEC Student Pitch Competition at Vanderbilt University.

Edward Hunter, a political science major at the University of Mississippi and West Point native, was named an at-large presidential fellow as part of the Presidential Fellows Program run by the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress.

Henry "Kit" Henick, of Washington, D.C., received the Doris Raymond Scholarship at the University of Mississippi. Henick is one of 18 freshmen accepted into UM's Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College who are recipients of some of the most bountiful scholarships at the university.
