Phoebe Johnson Named One of Inaugural Stamps Impact Prize Winners

Phoebe Johnson, of Little Rock, Arkansas, was named one of the 13 inaugural recipients of the Stamps Impact Prize, a new competitive award program at the University of Mississippi to support undergraduate-initiated, faculty-mentored research and creative achievement projects. The program is the first of its kind in the nation to receive a renewable $100,000 gift from E. Roe Stamps and his family, which is being matched by an investment from the university. Ole Miss students were invited to apply for the awards, which provide financial resources for their research projects.

The British government has named University of Mississippi alumna Jilkiah Bryant as a winner of a prestigious Marshall Scholarship, making her the third Marshall Scholar in the university's history. Bryant, a 2023 graduate with a degree in public health and health sciences, plans to spend the next two years studying community health at Sheffield University in England.

UM Students Inducted into Phi Kappa Phi

More than 190 University of Mississippi students were welcomed into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor societies for all academic disciplines. The university held an induction ceremony on Oct. 25 at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts on campus. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is based on a student's character and academic standing. Juniors must have completed 72 credit hours and rank in the top 7.5% of their class, while seniors and graduate students must rank in the top 10% of their class.

The Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society has selected a University of Mississippi student as the sole recipient of its annual scholarship. Elsie Buskes, a junior geology major from Oxford and member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, will receive $1,000 to help her pursue a career in near-surface geophysics, which involves analyzing the ground just below the surface.
